Weekends of full fixture schedules tend to run by their own momentum. Sometimes we’ll be left waiting until six on Sunday evening for something entertaining to happen. But on others, it all goes off a little too soon and everything else feels like a bit of a let-down by comparison.

This was, of course, the state of things this weekend. Nottingham Forest kicked it all off by beating Manchester City 1-0 at The City Ground and it was all downhill from there. Of course, there is a tendency on all our parts to treat such a result as some sort of shock… but was it? After all, at kickoff Forest were in third place in the table and City were in fourth. What else might we have been expecting to happen?
