At least two or three people shouted us to get back in the podcast saddle, so here we all are again with the first episode of You Couldn’t Script It. In this series, Edward Carter and Ian King will be looking at representations of football in the broadcast media.
From sitcoms to kids shows, from soap operas to big budget movies, we have a very simple question. Is it possible to capture the essence of football in a fictional representation? What do they get right and what do they get wrong? And Chris Barrie? A recently-retired professional footballer? ONE OF THE GREATEST THAT ENGLAND HAS EVER PRODUCED? Is this some sort of joke?
This week, we’re on the BBC1 sitcom A Price Among Men, which was recorded over two series in 1997 and 1998. Amongst other things, keep an ear out for some hot Jacko From Brush Strokes’ Brother-In-Law talk, including how Ian may have even been partly responsible* for this excerable show coming into being.
This podcast will be free every Friday for paying subscribers with one episode per month at the middle of each month for all.
